Things I love about teaching at Anubanchonburi:
*I get to wear slippers. All the teachers have outdoor shoes and classroom shoes. So it is actually more polite to wear strawberry slippers than dress shoes.
*Hearing the Kindergarten kids sing the morning pledge off key, louder and slower than the rest of the school.
*The imagination of my students. Today three of boys found old drinking straws on the ground and they were using them as wands. Adorable little Thai Harry Potters.
*When a classroom full of kids screams with delight because I pulled down the projection screen. They loves movies, songs and PowerPoints.
*Seeing improvement and understanding.
*Being confused as hell when my kids talk to me in Thai and then confusing them by saying a lot of quick, random English back to them.
*Tricking students into learning through fun games.
*When my entire class says the quiz was easy when initially I was worried about how I would teach that part of the lesson.
*Creativity on their coloring sheets.
*Seeing little groups of best friends.
*Seeing the kids go crazy over a new song and dance I taught them. They have so much fun during song time.
*Getting dozens of hugs after song and story time.
*Getting presents like bags of apples, sweet treats and even a little wallet.
*Hearing “Teacher Saaalllaaah” all day and even after school from students whizzing by on motorbikes.
Things I don’t like about Anubanchonburi:
*Finding out a week in advanced that I have to attend a mandatory teacher training next Saturday when I had already made big plans to shop in Bangkok. If I’m not getting paid, I’m not going, so we’ll see what happens.
